Update on Case-Based Business Electives:

By popular demand, Professor Mom is creating case-based business elective courses!  These courses will be completely self-contained... no need to purchase separate textbooks or other materials, no need to follow a certain timeline AND you can use them for more than one student.  They will also be even more affordable than Professor Mom's current online classes.  Look for the new courses this April, just in time to include them in your 2008-2009 curriculum plan!

The following five courses will be available in the initial release:

Business and Consumer Math (1 credit)
Business Communications (1 credit)
Economics (1 credit)
Business Ethics (1/2 credit)
Time Management for Teens (personal development)

To be notified when the courses are available, click here and drop me your email address.  (You will not be spammed!)

Welcome to AskProfessorMom.com!  You have found a comprehensive business education resource site for the homeschool community and any parent who is pursuing personal academic training with their children.  I offer directed study business courses for your high-school student, especially those who are college-bound.  Browse the course list and the FAQs to get a feel for the offerings and how I arrange the courses.  I am here to give your homeschooler a unique business perspective that can be elusive in a strictly self-directed study.

Your son or daughter is on the road to forming a strong academic mind, a developed set of higher-level thinking skills, and a heart for good values and civility.  I am here to give you an additional team member helping them attain their goals.  If you have any questions, or would like to be notified when I post a new class, please feel free to email me.  Have a terrific day!

Points to Note:

I am a homeschooling mom just like you.  The inspiration for this site came from other homeschooling moms who were looking for business-focused electives taught by an experienced and knowledgeable professional.  Being asked to create something to fill this need motivated me to create a model for online homeschooling business education.  The online environment is ideal for maintaining the flexibility and depth that you and your students are used to.  It is also a great catalyst to allow students to meet other homeschoolers from all over the country and to collaborate on real world case studies with each other.  Stellar, ethical business skills aren't taught in a lecture hall... they need to be analyzed and synthesized with the types of actual projects that business leaders face every day.  All courses offered on this site will integrate exceptional texts with meaningful hands on projects and discussions.  Students will be able to draw on their experiences here whether they go on to college, immediately join the workforce, or focus on ministry.
I have set this site up in order to provide offerings that students will find as useful electives at the high school level.  I will rotate offerings, and the set-up will be asynchronous in order to maintain the flexible schedule that you and your students enjoy from homeschooling.  I appreciate any feedback on courses, so that I can accurately assess demand.  I will try my best to schedule accordingly.

I also know that transcript development can be a bit hairy.  Your student will receive both grades and a detailed certificate upon completion of each course.  Also, in the interest of being "fiscally responsible", I will be including proprietary course materials with the tuition fees.  Any required texts will be listed along with links to sites that I know discount them and provide options to purchase used.  I will also give students links to sites where they can download electronic versions of the texts, which are often much less expensive than their hard-copy counterparts.

Last but not least... one of the main reasons that our family has chosen homeschooling is to provide our children with an education that provides not only the high academic standards that we value, but also an environment that seeks the good.  This means that I hold integrity and the virtues in the highest esteem.  I am commited to promoting good business ethics and strong character in my students.  This means that students will be taught only ethical business practices in their coursework and will be required to deal with their classmates with integrity and respect.  It's a big world out there with so much to learn.  By collaborating and feeding the mind with knowledge and strong values, we are developing a new generation of wise and productive leaders!
